Lyle and Scott Vintage

Posted on by 0 comment

Lyle and Scott Vintage, a slimmer fit range from Lyle & Scott (go one size up) is very popular at the moment, frequently sported by the likes of the curly haired twat off popworld on T4 (but don’t let that put you off). They have V-neck jumpers (the V shows a little too much cleavage for my liking), polo shirts and this seasons Val Doonican trend, cardigans.

It is stocked by amongst the usual suspects like Urban Outfitters, “Utter Nutter” in Romford, a shop with one of the worst names of all time but which amazingly does not stock “Ralphy” shirts and the like, but has a good range including Franklin Marshall and Paul Frank.

Gilets Gilets everywhere

Everywhere seems to be buying “gilets” at the moment.

I got a chocolate brown one from Esprit, but H&M, Duffer, Energie, etc are all selling them.

By the way, they’re not really called gilets – they’re bodywarmers.

Scott of the High Street

Nice Jumper!
Nigel Cabourn designs rugged clothes inspired by mountaineers and explorers of yore (think sepia toned photos of men in Antartica raising the union jack while puffing on a pipe). His own brand is rather high end price-wise, but Debenhams have snuck in there and persuaded him to do a diffusion line. There’s some nice anoraks, cord trousers and duffle coats, but I’m not sure about the jumpers.

Available in Debenhams from September.

Be A Winner

Don't Be A Sinner, Be A Winner Shirt

This will mean nothing to anyone who hasn’t shopped in London’s Oxford Street in the last 5 years, but it’s worth saying anyway 🙂 “Don’t Be A Sinner, Be A Winner” shirts are now available from Good At Magic.

Click here if you want to know more about London’s favourite amateur evangelist.

Boston Glass Cocktail Shaker

Every stylish man should have a cocktail shaker, and not a £2.99 one from Argos.

A “Boston Glass” style one is essential, but many places do not sell them. One place that does is Leon Jaeggi on Shaftesbury Avenue.

Smell Like Cary Grant

Creed Irish Tweed

If you’re getting bored of smelling other people wearing the same CKOne/Gaultier/Brut aftershave as you, it may be time to investigate some of the more obscure fragrances out there. Without doubt, one of the greatest men’s fragrances is Creed’s Irish Tweed. Originally commissioned for Cary Grant, it’s combinations of woody and floral tones is very distinguished and is the kind of thing not forgotten in a hurray (particularly by ladies)

It’s not cheap (£45 for 30ml), but then the bottle I bought 5 years ago is still going strong (admittedly I don’t wear it too often). Try Escentual online or Liberty in London

Summer Hat

Goorin Tiki Lounge Hat
With it’s faded and frayed hawaiin shirt fabric, and a wooden button on the side, you should really be drinking a cocktail in a Honalulu bar to wear the Goorin Tiki Lounge Hat Admittedly a friend did greet me with “Where’d you find that ? A skip ?” but I think it’s ideal now that summer’s arrived and so many other hats make you look like you’re trying too hard.

Urban Outfitters are carrying them in the UK for £18.

Selfridges Sale

Posted on by 0 comment

Selfridges are currently having a very large sale.

Items available include Gieves & Hawkes shirts reduced from £79 to £59 for the merchant banker in your life and lots of reductions on Duffer of St George amongst many others. Unfortunately the Nigel Hall tank top I bought wasn’t reduced.

I was quite keen on the Ralph Lauren & Le Tigre polo shirts, but they were full price (£49).

There is also the largest amount of foul near-day-glo Ralph Lauren shirts I’ve ever seen in one place before.

One True Saxon Shoes
One True Saxon’s website is having a pretty good summer sale with 40% off most of their stuff. Shoes are around £50, nice anoraks for £90 and t-shirts for £19. Warning: the site’s a bit of a Flash monstrosity.
